Sara-Lee Stewart is a senior at Uniondale High School. She will be attending Hofstra University in the fall to pursue a double major in political science and communications.
Throughout her time in high school, she served as the president and a founding executive member of My Sister’s Keeper organization. She has also been actively involved in a variety of extracurricular activities, including the Mock Trial team, DECA and Model United Nations, where she received several awards, like best delegate at Columbia University for spring and fall.
As an AP scholar and ambassador, she was passionate about advocating for raising funds so that students who are struggling financially can take AP exams. On top of my academic pursuits, Sara-Lee also competed on the Varsity Track and Cross Country teams from eighth to 11th grade. She also gets hands-on experience reporting for Newsline at Hofstra University WRHU, which has been invaluable for her growth in reporting.
In memory of UPI reporter and Mineola pressroom veteran Hank Logeman, who was an influence on many journalists throughout the years, the Hank Logeman High School Journalism Award & Scholarship is designed to support and promote high school journalism on Long Island. The $2,000 scholarship is awarded to an outstanding high school journalist/broadcaster, newspaper, or radio station that does the most to promote high school journalism on Long Island.
