September 19: The Importance of High School Sports Journalism

Posted on Sep. 4, 2024  /  0

High school sports are more than just games; they’re a cornerstone of community spirit, personal development and school pride. Whether you’re a player, a coach, a parent, or just a sports enthusiast, understanding how media coverage impacts these events can deepen our appreciation for the dedication and talent involved.

In this Press Club of Long Island roundtable discussion, we'll explore the importance of high school sports coverage, the challenges that arise and the future of high school sports journalism.

Our panel includes Newsday's Gregg Sarra, North Shore News Group's Anthony Lifrieri and The Express News Group's Cailin Riley. PCLI board member Jamie Stuart will moderate the discussion.

This conversation will take place via Zoom on Thursday, September 19, at 7 p.m. REGISTER FOR THE ZOOM LINK.

In addition, the Suffolk chapter of the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame named an award after Gregg, titled “The Gregg Sarra Trophy” — awarded to the top offensive and defensive high school football players on Long Island.

ANTHONY LIFRIERI

Anthony LiFrieri is a sports reporter/editor for the North Shore News Group, which consists of The Smithtown News, Northport Observer, Huntington News and other papers. Anthony Lifrieri has covered sports on the North Shore of Long Island since the summer of 2011.
