September 14: Sports Reporting Tips From the Pros

Bruce Beck is the lead sports anchor at WNBC. He is in his 25th year with News 4 New York. Bruce is the host and sideline reporter for New York Giants pre-season football. In November 2021, Broadcasting & Cable honored Bruce as the top local sports anchor in America. Bruce has also been named New York State Sportscaster of the Year 9 times, He has covered Super Bowls, NBA Finals, Stanley Cup Finals, World Series, US Open Golf and Tennis Championships, the NCAA Final Four, marathons, horse racing events and nine Olympic Games.

Rich Cimini has covered the New York Jets for more than 30 years, joining ESPN in 2010. He previously was a beat writer for Newsday and the New York Daily News. Rich’s work has been recognized by the National Sports Media Association, Pro Football Writers of America, Associated Press New York and United Press International New York. He was named New York State Sports Writer of the Year in 2020, and the Pro Football Writers of America awarded him the first-place Bob Oates NFL Beat Writing Award in 2019. He is also a member of the Suffolk County and Sachem High School Sports Halls of Fame. 

Barbara Barker is a sports columnist and features writer for Newsday who produces issue-oriented columns and human-interest pieces. She joined Newsday in 1995 as the New York Knicks beat writer and has covered the NBA as a reporter or columnist for almost three decades. She is a sought-after expert on topics related to the intersection of sports and society and has appeared as a commentator on NPR’s “All Things Considered,” WNYC’s “The Brian Lehrer Show,” ESPN, TNT, MSG, WFAN and SNY. 

Emmy Award-winning sports journalist and former News 12 Long Island producer, sports reporter and sports anchor Jamie Stuart will moderate the discussion.
